Started by someone doing trail maintenance with power tools, the Jesusita fire blew up into a monster that caused over a third of Santa Barbara to be evacuated.
Including us: we got the warning at midnight, and were evacuated at 2am. (ironically, we were literally the family furthest from the fire to be evacuated) We found the Red Cross Center was full, and ended up staying with really good friends for the weekend, which was not too bad at all!
80 homes burned in total, and it was pretty horrifying to see a couple burn. We had to go through our belongings and decide what to take, which is really sobering. We’re glad to be reminded that we don’t value our possessions more than our relationships.
